Homeward Bound

Welcome to Homeward Bound, the latest collection of accessory patterns from Whisky Bay Woollens.  I'm so thrilled to finally share these new designs with you.

First in the collection is a beautiful textured hat with a stitch pattern reminiscent of ocean coves. Sealers Cove pays homage to one of my favourite sections of Wilsons Promontory

Knit in DK/8ply yarn, with a folded double-brim to keep ears warm against the wind. Shown here in both a gorgeous gradient yarn and a speckled version from By Briony (formerly Gradient), the pattern works beautifully with solid, semi-solids or speckles.

The pompom is optional (but who could resist?!)

There are two sizes included in the pattern, with a generous circumference range designed to fit heads between 50cm - 64cm . The stretchy nature of the stitch pattern and folded brim help accommodate a broad range of sizes, making this beanie perfect for unisex knitting, and the added bonus - curls-friendly!

Written and charted directions for the Cove stitch pattern are both included for this design.

The second pattern in the collection is the Walkerville socks, which also incorporate a squishy, cosy rib pattern to snuggly hug the wearer's foot and provide warmth and comfort.

A simple yet effective rib pattern makes these socks super squishy and comfy - perfect for hiking trails, or keeping toes warm at night by the fire.

With contrast toes, heels and cuffs, they are also a great way to use up some of those leftover sock yarns we all have lurking in our stash.

Worked from the cuff-down with a heel flap/gusset heel. The heel flap is a combination of garter and slipped stitches, adding further to the comfort and durability of these cosy socks.

There are three sizes included in this pattern -  with foot circumferences including Small: 19cm, Medium:21.5cm and Large:24cm. The ribbed stitch pattern provides a degree of ease to the finished measurements, making this pattern very suitable for varying sizing, and there is also provision for custom-fitting the foot length before beginning the toe shaping.

I used Lang Jawoll sock yarn for this design, which comes in a beautiful range of colours including marles, brights, neutrals and pastels. So many possible combinations!  The design works equally well in a solid yarn too, as shown here when knit using Regia 4-fadig.
